No actual gongs here. Anyone going to SXSW (Festival in Austin)? We will be staying in the little Motel a little way away from the main festivities...well we had a house swap but it fell through last minute (they decided they could not go on holiday or something annoying. Idiots.)...Last time we went we stayed in the tallest Hotel and had a swimming pool on the roof, ahh the good old days, we looked out at all our minions...There will be lots of bands to see, I think Flats are going this year and SCUM, both good London bands worth going to see. Let us know if you have any recommendations. Actually we have some passes on our Pledge thing if you need/want (Pledge Music Pre-order of album thing)...

We were on the Squeeze blog/site thing Packet Of Three today, or yesterday maybe, that was pretty cool. They mentioned our cover of the If I Didn't Love You track. We have done a couple of covers now, all for the pledgers, been interesting. So far Crystal Stilts Through the Floor, Hefner Greedy Ugly People, Squeeze If I Didn't Love You, Horrors Scarlet Fields. I think we will be doing a couple more, trying to do some of our contemporaries and a few odd older ones that you would not usually associate with us - or maybe you would, who is to say...actually not that long to go now on the Pledge Campaign...

Have a look out for the Pre-Order for the Electricity In Our Homes album. Great band. Their album is up for pre-order now on Itunes and such like I think. Was lucky enough to get an early copy of the album on vinyl and play it at home the other day. Good times.

NEW ALBUM "ABOUT GIRLS" PLEDGE CAMPAIGN

We have started a new campaign for the release of our new album ‘About Girls’. Its kind of different, kind of new, and we thinks its pretty exciting!

Different? Well, you get to pre-order and get involved BEFORE the album is even totally finished and on the shelves. Before the press and radio make up your minds about it, you become integral to it rather than just a consumer.

Why is it new? Its a new company called Pledge that are doing very well with this kind of thing (with bands like the lovely Summer Camp and Emmy the Great) and quite simply is nothing like how we have done anything before.

Exciting? Yes. We have found that there are a lot of ways we can do things that are not in the usual album campaign checklist, ways that we get to interact and communicate with you which would not normally be possible.

How does it work?

Well, we work out how much money we need to raise to release the record (making and pressing the record and all that jazz) and then we ask you to Pledge for the album. When we reach the target we release all the pledges and we go about releasing the album into your homes.

What else?

As a Pledger you will receive regular updates with all our adventures on this, with video diaries, video from the studio, demo versions of the songs, rehearsal audio, journal entries and general nonsense. This will be an exclusive club for us and you the people who get involved with the campaign by Pledging.

So go here , put your name on the list, and you will be able to come along for the next few months with us on the journey. Its going to be very interesting, a bit of fun, and a very honest insight into our world and what its like making and putting out a record in the world of Hatcham Social.

(Oh and one extra thing, the first 50 pledgers will recieve free tickets to a Japanese tv show gig that we are doing in London this month!)

This afternoon I have been trying to get hold of some 3rd Rock From the Sun DVDs for my Dad who is ill at the moment and has a large amount of love for these charming alien visitors. I had plimpsoles on and got wet feet then found out HMV had closed down. High streets are not the place to shop now, you have to look online. I did not want to order it, I just wanted to pick it up.If anyone has a load of 3rd Rock DVDs and wants to get rid of them let me know...

More worthy of your attention is Not Cool have split up. I really think this band should have had a lot more people talking about them. Really good live and totally believable. These are not topshop trend followers who look at whats hot on the blogs and regurgitate with a pretty smile, these are real people who are just fucking cool, and incidentally calling themselves Not Cool.

I found this today http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/2011/07/not-cool-offer-free-album-download/ its an album of b-sides and stuff that Not Cool have put together and given away. Go and get it. Then go and get the ACTUAL album, Rugged Raw, its great. Loud. Guitar. Music.

I also made friends with Martin Rossiter on a well known social networking site today after he was at the Pure Festival with us the other day. This inspired me to go and learn For The Dead. Great song. Not a hugely loved band these days I think, but when everyone forgets about America and krautrock for a moment maybe they will be interested again.

Its the end of the world as we know it...

All hell has broken loose, a concoction of americanised ghetto culture love, youthful naughty energy, general old fashioned thuggery , a hefty dose of political moronic choice with a brown coloured country leadership and the trusty bbm messenger service.

A definite sense of excitement and fear. Local groups pulling together to look after their own. What. A. Week.

And one outcome that people like you and me (lovers of music...) will feel is the burning down of the Sony Distribution center which housed many many records we would love to buy. The warehouse was Sony Corp's sole distribution base in the UK, it also stored PIAS Distribution, who are responsible for the stock of many independent record labels.
XL, Angular, Domino, Matador, Warp and Sub Pop are amongst the labels affected by the blaze.

So we urge you to buy loads of MP3s from these people while they try to sort out how it will work out.

It seems a funny place for the thugs and hoody-kids to loot, I amuse myself imagining a bunch of hoodlums saying to each other how they have grabbed a load of Wetdog and Horrors on vinyl..."yeah loved that Lower Leg, that shit is hardcore bruv", "shut it, thats nuttin, I gots some Still Life 7s - dope!"....

Dicks will be pushing their luck now for a while so stay safe. Love HS Republic; the state of the future.

Hello all in the outside world,

We are excited to be venturing up to the hills of Wales where we recorded our Mini-Album 'Found In The Woods' to record our as yet untitled second long player. We will go up in just under 10 days to spend two weeks recording. Spending the last few months rehearsing the 20 songs that are contenders for the album we want to record in a quick and live fashion keeping it stark and aggressive and honest. Songs about girls, dancing, and the people we know....

Some of you will know that we have been playing shows over the summer and following months with a selection of different musicians each show being a complete one off, well now we have got a final complete lineup for album two. So please give your love and support for the finest players in London Town we could find; Hatcham Social now comprises of David Claxton on Guitar, Riley Difford on Bass and the same Finnigan Kidd and Toby Kidd on Drums/vocals and Vocals/guitar respectively.

Good afternoon

I am in Malta, I am on a trip playing some guitar for the singer Amy Studt at a charity event for Inspire. Staying at a hotel called The Palace, most comfortable beds in the world. In the days I am using this trip to write. I have been getting lyrics and chords together for the next album sessions. Went down to the sea-front yesterday, the waves are strong and crash onto the sand colored rocks. We are in a quiet part of town called Sliema and spend much of our time in a pub called Simon's Pub where the event is taking place through the week. That is where I write from at this moment. Simon runs the pub and is Maltese born and bred. On arrival on the thursday evening, Simon dress's up as a british policeman and runs in through the small paraphernalia filled room brandishing a truncheon. He shouts "get out its a raid" and then places a fake knife through is head.
Objects that fill the pub: banners, posters, medals, cups, clogs, drawing of a french man on the wall, football scarfs, joke signs - "I am ugly and Not Funny but available" etc - car number pate with 'simon' on and other nicknacks, there are many.

Last night Amy was invited to DJ at a club in the center of town, it is a much busier part of town that is like a holiday destination version of Leicester square. We went to this club called Flago's down through throngs of drunken merrymakers and weekenders. Cheap aftershave and overprice beer hung in the air as we struggled to follow our miniature guide - Maddy - through the crowded streets to the club. The club ended up being a four to the floor/pop/house/dance music type affair with a Brazilian DJ (at one point he got to the stage with a mic on his face and proceeded to 'hype' the audience and get them to learn simple flamenco dance moves) who obviously spent his whole afternoons drinking protein shakes and pumping iron. Lets just say our popiest set was slightly too low octane for the clientele and not long after starting we had the pink shirt grey mullet owner asking us kindly to step down. He was perfectly friendly to us but had the manner of man you did not cross. He spoke to his staff with an aggression and body language that made them cower. Although I must say his face was as soft as a babies when he spoke to us and told Amy how much he loved her voice.

I missed breakfast this morning at the hotel and am now starting to get that hunger pain in my stomach. I will go roam the streets until I find something.

The album is famous for having one side of up-beat songs and a second side of melancholic ballads. On the first half, "When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)," "Dance, Dance, Dance" and "Do You Wanna Dance?" were all hits, and "Help Me, Ronda" would be worked on further to deliver the Beach Boys their second #1 hit in May.(amid a small spelling change in the title). The second side, in retrospect, was an indicator to where Brian Wilson was going musically. Considered darker and more meaningful than previous softer works, alongside Wilson's increasing productivity in the studio, the ballads on the second side are thought of as a precursor to Pet Sounds' technical triumphs, including strings, horns, piano and keyboards, more percussion, and volume tricks.

Sidewalk Single 10inch out on 10th November (we hope...)

Our next single will be Sidewalk and it is out on very ltd 10 inch and download.
The release will include a alternate version of Hypnotise Terrible Eyes which we recorded with Baxter Dury in North London a few months back. A song called Wild Creatures and a cover of the Beach Boys Surfin Safari which we recorded up in Battery Studios near Kilburn.
Also a demo of a song called King Kong that we recorded ourselves in Drummers Hill studio in Wales.

Sidewalk Artwork for sleeves needs you....

We are having all the physical copies of the Sidewalk single on a very ltd 10 inch with each sleeve hand drawn. We want you to draw them. We put a photograph up on the blog of you and your sleeve, whoever buys the copy that you drew can see who did it up on the blog....does that make sense? Hope so. We have already had a few done up in Manchester on Sunday and will be taking to the next shows.
If you want to draw one send your address to ellie@fiercepanda.co.uk and we will send you one to draw onto. If you live abroad and not enough time to send email ellie a scanned in version of the drawing (Jpeg will do) and a photo of you with it and Fierce Panda will get it printed directly on to a sleeve here....

It's with great pleasure that we can now announce our return to the USA this year, and it is an even bigger honour that it shall be with Echo & The Bunnymen. Starting on November 15th, we shall join them for 8 dates across the east coast, and we really can't wait to return following our successful trips back in March and June this year. Offset this weekend

So we are looking forward to a couple of days in Hainault park (incidentally quite a lot of our family live in Hainault and surrounding areas). We are going to camp for the whole weekend I think. There are lots of bands to see as I am sure you know, I will be watching; wetdog, goodshoes, shrag, sunderbans and EIOHs. Lots more too, just what comes to mind.

We have some very exciting new announcements to make regarding over the pond and shows here too soon.

Will be spending the next month making new music too.......

If you get a chance to, watch the film Blood Simple. Really good early Coen Brothers film. Then come and watch St Elmo's Fire on Monday after Offset with us and the Birds at The Legion.

We play Offset on Sunday at 2100 hours on the ECC stage which is curated by the mighty She Set, bring Confetti and a dancing partner to fall in love with.
I do believe we will finnish in time to walk over to see the Horrors after too. Good Times.

North American Tour Cancelled

We are very sad to announce that our upcoming tour of North America
with the Charlatans has been cancelled. Please see below for the
statement from the Charlatans website. We are now working very
hard to arrange some new dates for later this year and as soon

The Charlatans are sorry to announce the cancellation of their forthcoming
North American tour. This is due to drummer Jon Brookes' longstanding shoulder complaint. He has been strongly advised by doctors against undertaking 23 concerts in 28 days as this could cause severe damage to ligaments in the affected area. He will start a course of treatment starting in September and in the coming months to rectify the condition.
Once again the band wish to apologise to people who have purchased tickets and those that had made travel arrangements We are as disappointed as you are, due to this unavoidable situation.

a day out in Devon

a 5am start yesterday as we set off for our lunch time slot at the Beautiful Days Festival in Devon. pleased to see a number of people out so early on the sunday morning, kind of thought they might all still be in their tents. kicked a few balls about, enjoyed a pie for lunch, saw some acoustic acts in the Big Top, a tightrope walker and the highly entertaining Village Disco. back in London this weekend for a show at the Queen of Hoxton. great show last night at the New Slang club in Kingston. Ellie Panda was with us, celebrating her birthday (officially celebrated this sunday at the Hoxton Bar & Grill Cool For Cats All Dayer). There were cakes and everything backstage!

Probably one of the best run club nights we've been to, and the crowd were fantastic. It was great playing a slighty different set to what we've been playing recently. And don't worry Steve (whoever you are), we kept the back stage area immaculate! Dave.

well, we actually drove approximately 1300 miles, starting in east london on friday morning, arriving back sunday evening. and sandwiched inbetween was our show at the Belladrum Festival in Scotland, just outside Inverness. It was a great little festival, almost a mini-Glastonbury, infact probably what Glastonbury was like many a year ago, before it became so big. here's a view from our journey...

and so the long road ahead opens up. we're northbound to Inverness today. it's gonna be about a 15 hour drive. similar length to our drive from Paris to Munich a few months ago. just a lot closer to home. onstage tomorrow at the Hothouse Stage of Belladrum Festival. not sure on stage time, but we're the third band on so it's probably around 1:30pm. byebye. Been a fun week this week. We put the finishing touches to our Halloween Fancy Dress Prom, which takes place at the King's College Student Union on October 28th. It's got a great line up including Official Secrets Act, Electricity In Our Homes & Sunderbans plus Cool For Cats v WakS djs and Amy dj-ing 50's rock n roll.

Then on tuesday we played at the newly opened Garage with our favourite touring band The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. Have now played in Utrecht, Amsterdam, Isle of Wight, New York and London with them. Had a great time at the Buffalo Bar afterwards as they dj'd and we danced til the early hours. Talking of which, we head to Inverness tomorrow morning. Leaving at 8am from east london, so it's a 6am wakeup. Goodnight. Dave.
